Panama Canal Sets New Historical Record with 3,000th Neopanamax Transit

On March 2, 2018 The Panama Canal announced the transit of  the 3,000th Neopanamax vessel, which exceeded  initial traffic calculations by this date and by doing so has rea firmed the value and contribution that the new expanded canal is making to the impact of global maritime trade by reaffirming the value and impact its route has had on global maritime trade.

The crossing was made by MSC ( Mediterranean Shipping Company ) Caterina ., which at the same time is a Panama flagged vessel . Panama Maritime , Ismael Gerli, said that the M/V MSC Caterina ,  completed the historical  transit early morning of March 2, headed northbound from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.

About the vessel which measures  300 meters in length and 48 meters in beam, and a total TEU capacity of 9,000 containers. MSC Caterina was one of the nine Neopanamax vessels that where well welcomed by the waterway in that date.

This is not only an accomplishment , but a milestone, said Panama  Maritime Attorney , Ismael Gerli, which has been  achieved in less than two years of operation of the new expanded canal ,which furthermore  serves as a broad reminder of the unequivocal  confidence that have in the Panama Canal
